Batley Boys U12s faced a stern test on Saturday as they faced Townville Tigers, a team who had only lost one game all season. Townville got off the mark quickly as from the first set their fullback used his pace and tremendous footwork to break through the line and score under the posts, giving Batley a timely reminder of how dangerous Townville can be. It did not take Batley long to even the scores as the Man of the match Jarrad Kirk showed great strength to go over and Liam Rush converted. With Batley beginning to find their rhythm they began to target the right hand side as most improved Kyle Render, James Smith and Joe Hyland were involved in some great rugby which saw Spectators man of the match kyle Foley, top tackler Jack Broadbent and Luke Slack score. Townville were also playing their familar brand of attacking rugby and tries for them saw the half time score 18-16 to Batley.
Batley started the second half with instructions to shore up the defence and they did so with Harry Foster, Harry Brearey and Paul Scott excellent in defence. With Batley starting to impose themselves in the middle of the park, with Josh Ward and Charlie Sandell at the forefront it was only a matter of time before the smaller Townville side gave in to the pressure. Jack Broadbent crossed after a superb interception from Josh Scrutton and Kyle Foley powered over soon after. Kielan Allen then opened up to score a trademark length of the field try and Kyle Foley completed a superb hat-trick. Townville though were not done as they scored again but it wasn't to be enough as Batley won 42-20.
