For the first 15mins Batley were matching east leeds set for set. However East leeds proved to be the well drilled outfit that we expected and began to find weekness in Batley defence . The speed and strength of east leeds defence was to be Batleys downfall as they were able to pin Batley down in their own half for much of the game .
A try in the first half by Leon Ruan as he powered over the line lifted spirits and Batley pushed on however Leeds speed down the wing and missed tackles led to several trys.
Oliver Tomlinson put in some good kicks to make space and gain some yards and managed to force some errors from Leeds. A second half try from Jonah Parsons as he stepped through the leeds defence helped bring some positive attitude back into the game
It was great to see the new players out on the field and for the contribution they gave to the team in what we could only descibe as a baptism of fire
The lack of training time on the field had proved to be a contribution to the errors in defence and will be taken into training next week
Batley proved to be graciuos in defeat and showed the unquestionable attitude of a team that could take the negatives from the game and turn to possitives.
