Batley back to their best
After a poor performance last week Batley turned up this weekend with a point to prove and how they did it, even though were beat by a very skillfull Headingley team they came away with their heads held high after more than matching the opposition in every department it came down to a couple of knockons and a bit of panic.
As always happens with this Batley team they always like to concede first to give themselves a challenge and yet again they conceded the first try but hit straight back through Man Of The Match Cole Innes with a typical forwards drive from 15 yards out to take 6 Headingley players over the try line with him to level the scores with Max Clark who also weighed in with 12 tackles converting to give Batley the lead, Headingley scored just before half-time to lead 8-6 but Batley were up for this.
Batley started the second half poorly as Headingley who must have a tough team talk came out firing throwing the ball around with confidence and raced into a 28-6 lead but yet again Batley finished the game strongly scoring the final try through hard working and Opposition Man Of The Match Matty Blackshaw after a superb pass by playmaker Lucas Tomlinson, converted by Cole Innes to give the scoreline a truer reflection of the game.
As a team Batley can be proud of the way they turned up and performed with grit, determination and pride as many teams would have crumbled after last weeks game and going behind so early in this one.
Levi Charlton won Top Tackler making 16 tackles on the wing as he made a nuisance of himself backed up by Lucas Tomlinson(9), Max Clark(12), Bader Hussain(11) and Will Stoner(10) who had to come off after making a textbook tackle in the second half all weighed in with high tackle counts.
Most Improved was awarded to the team as it was difficult to choose one player after great performances by Shane Gaunt, Harry Holmes Pearson, Kyle Horrocks, Tom Rhodes, Leon Heeley, Joe Goodall, Joe Scott and Harrison Headley.
