Eastmoor Dragons U12 V Batley Boys U12

Batley Boys travelled to Eastmoor Dragons and put in a much improved performance, although they were unable to come away with the points.

Eastmoor started well and it was easy to see why they had graced division one for so long as they put the ball through several hands before opening the scoring. While handling errors blighted last weeks performance it was penalties that were damaging Batley this time and unable to gain meaningful possession they saw Eastmoor stretch the lead to 12-0. Batley began to hit back and began to play some superb rugby as they attacked the line with Liam Rush, Harry Brearey, Harry Foster, Kyle Render and Josh Scrutton excellent as the forwards Jarrad Kirk, Paul Scott and Josh Ward began to get on top. Reward came as Joe Hyland bundled over to make the half time score 12-4.

Batley began the second half as they had ended the first as they continued to pressure Eastmoor but despite the solid defensive efforts of Morgan Oates, Owen West, Luke Slack and Dylan Hodgson it was Eastmoor who broke to extend the lead. Again Batley kept coming and a superb break and try from Jack Broadbent followed by tries from Charlie Sandell and Kyle Foley brought Batley to within two points. Batley pushed hard in attack but were defensively stretched as Eastmoor scored 3 tries in quick succession to all but finish the game off. Batley though were to have the last word as a neat step and pass from James Smith was taken well by Jack Broadbent to leave the final score at 36-24 to Eastmoor.

Batley face the Hunslet Warriors next week in their first home game of the season and will go into it confident that if the defence can be shored up the first league win will not be far away.
