We have been catching up with our U15s who have been on scholarships for a year now to find out how they are getting on.

First up is Stan Kilburn who is on Scholarship at Huddersfield Giants.

How old were you when you started playing at Batley Boys? 6

What have been your favourite memories/moments at Batley Boys so far?
When one of our player’s dad chased armed bank robbers and caught them while we were playing away at Wyke.

Players who inspire you and why?
Jonathon Thurston because of how he can read a defensive line and make a decision.

Do you play school rugby? If so, how does that differ from community rugby?
I do play school rugby. It’s good to play with different people, the coaching is better at community level and school rugby is less serious and played for fun more than anything.

How has your first year of scholarship been? Is it what you expected? Highlights so far?
First year of scholarship has been very good and very challenging, the expectation is high and I’ve improved a lot since starting, highlight would be scoring against London in the last scholarship game.

What are your tips or hints for the players at Batley Boys who are just about to start their scholarships?
Be committed, get to every session on time or early, participate where you can, listen to what they tell you and always be positive and realise it’s a privilege to be there.

Thanks to Stan for sharing his thoughts and stories with us.
