Boys hit half century

Batley Boys U10s had their first home game of the season as they faced Farnley Falcons in a game they were desperate to
impress in after the disappointment at Eastmoor.

With a healthy crowd watching as well as referee Kyle Render sporting his 'Ref cam' Batley were keen to impress their
audience and could not have had a better start as a strong set saw them into the Farnley half allowing Sol Haldenby
to power over from short range, and he was able to convert his own try. From the re-start Farnley showed they weren't
to be taken lightly as they ran round the edge of the Batley defence to score their first try. The half continued with
both sides trading tries, Batley typically making good ground up the middle especially with scoots from man of the match
Lewis Stafford and clever plays from Noah Jones, while Farnley could only break the Batley defence by running around the
edges. Batley's other tries in the first half came from Logan Hinchliffe, a second from Sol Haldenby which was converted
by captain and most improved player Lucas Moore, Callum Smith who converted his own try and magic moment winner Josh
Howgate who chased a great last tackle kick by Noah Jones and caught the ball leading to him breaking away to score under
the posts, this try converted by Brandon Hall-Crowther.

After the open first half Batley knew the key to winning was shoring up the defence and putting into practice what they
had been doing in training. It began brightly for Batley as a great run from Stefan Dumitru saw him score his first try
for the team despite the attention of several Farnley defenders to increase the lead, and from then on Batley never
looked back. Strong defence from the backs and in particular top tackler Callum McNaughton and Anthony Newsome-Brennan
meant Farnley were no longer able to run round while Batley continued to score at regular intervals. Daniel Goodlad was
the next to score for Batley with a devastating run as he kept up his good early season form and the next came from Brandon
Hall-Crowther who collected a kick from Noah Jones winning magic moment in the process, Callum McNaughton converted the try.
A jinking run from Callum Smith saw him collect his second try of the morning which Cole Ripley converted, before Farnley
pulled one back, their only score of the second half. The last actions of the game saw spectators man of the match Cole Ripley
burst over to score his first of the season which was well converted by an improving Logan Bagshaw. After the game it was
fitting Farnley gave the man of the match to the whole Batley defence in the second half which proved the difference in the
sides
